Aspect Ratio

Simply put, Aspect Ratio is the relationship of a picture's WIDTH to it's HEIGHT.

For example; 10" (W) x 8" (H) = 10÷8 = 1.25 (Aspect Ratio)

7" (W) x 5" (H) = 7÷5 = 1.4 (Aspect Ratio)

Another way to think about Aspect Ratio is to recall the black horizontal bars that you've probably seen at the top/bottom of your standard television when trying to watch a widescreen-format movie. This is explained in much detail here:

Here is what happens to a 4X6 Print when it is simply cropped, to the following common sizes:

4X6
5X7
8X10

So, an image that is already displaying the aspect ratio of a 4X6 print, will not look the same if printed at 5X7 or 8X10 and will probably not even be usable without some digital manipulation. Often times, I am able to incorporatesome digital manipulation to make images work at several different Aspect Ratios, but sometimes this is not possible. So, some images are simply not available in all print sizes. If this should occur with one or more images that you've chosen to have printed, I will contact you.
